Review of Restaurant House Piccolo October 29th 2016
Gail Gabel, Vice Chancelier and Argentier
After weeks of rain, the weather “Gods” were smiling on our recent dining event which was held at House Piccolo on Salt Spring Island. Twenty two (22) folk attending (13 Members and 9 partners), some enjoyed a leisurely cruise to arrive and depart on privately owned boats whose owners offered after event hospitality. This was our third visit to Piccolo’s over more than 10 years.

Our traditional Reception “Bubbles” were Italian this time, and Larry as usual, was a wealth of information on the wines. The Amuse Bouche morsels were beautifully presented and complemented the “Bubbles” well. The red wine, San Pedro de Yacochuya 2008, paired with the main course of venison, came from our cellar and the Bailliage received kudos from Larry for the foresight in having laid this wine down some years ago.
Maitre Rotisseur and our host, Piccolo, was in his usual fine form with a touch of self-deprecating dry humour when introducing each course. Piccolo has been a Chaine Member for many years and is currently our longest supporting Professional in the Victoria Bailliage. At the end of the evening, the kitchen brigade, which included Piccolo’s wife Kirsi, received a warm round of applause and Bailli, Ian Batey, presented Piccolo with his Officier Maître Rôtisseur ribbon.
